    Farm bill progress crawls ahead as partisan priorities emerge

    Mixed views remain about how close the next $1.5 trillion farm bill is to reaching the finish line.

    A boost of spirits came in early May when both the House and Senate agriculture committees shared summaries of their farm bill proposals . Markups of the House legislation are expected by May 23. The bill was released on March 16 . The Senate Ag committee has not released an expected date for their text. A timeline of when a farm bill will be passed remains elusive.

    Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-South Dakota, who serves on the House Agriculture Committee, said the House is just days away from releasing text for their bill and he’s enthusiastic about how it looks.
